“Through Counseltation, Mindy Salyers and her team are providing much-needed support to teachers, students, and families. They recognize a hole in our programs and have made great strides to filling it. The team is kind and thoughtful, but most importantly extremely passionate about their mission, and it shows through the resources they produce.”

Our Team

  • Mindy Salyers, BA, MSC

As a Christian educator and licensed School Counselor of nearly 20 years, Mindy has served in both the private and public school sectors with an emphasis on at-risk students. In particular, Mindy has worked on six grant-funded initiatives aimed to close the educational gap. She is currently partnered with the La Sierra University Center for Conflict Resolution and is piloting a school counseling service for Conferences across the NAD. With certifications as an OLWEUS Bullying Prevention trainer, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist, and basic certification in Restorative Practices, along with her wide variety of experiences, she has served in roles at every level of education, but found that her greatest passion is facilitating student social, emotional, and academic growth within the context of her Adventist faith.

Mindy currently lives in a cabin mountain retreat with her husband, two daughters, and golden retriever.

  • Dustin Young, D.SW, LCSW, MSW

Dustin R. Young, LCSW, MSW, joined the Andrews Social Work Department in July 2021. She recognized a passion for Social Work while volunteering at Ground Zero just months after 9/11. Professor Young also worked with Auggie's Hope, a non-profit for training first responders to support trauma-informed practices. In addition, she is an adjunct instructor for Tillamook Bay Community College. She focuses on supporting schools and churches with mental health education, trauma-informed practices, and creative social-emotional skills implementation in classrooms.

He has he has also served in many leadership capacities, and has worked as a TA in the Adventist school system for over 5 years. Cameron believes that his knowledge and experience has both strengthened his values of integrity, compassion, and empathy for students and faculty, and it has fueled his passion for ministry and social work. With his life-long experience of being educated in Adventist institutions, Cameron has found that what truly shapes his practice and mindset is the relationship he has with God, and he believes that every person that he communicates with can and should have the opportunity of meeting the God who is both Creator and Friend.

Cameron has many hobbies, that include playing basketball, short and long-distance traveling, and is a self-certified “foodie”. He also enjoys worship leading through music, connecting with loved ones, and spending time with his dogs Milo, Kobe, and Gio.

  • Karie MacPhee, BA Education

Several years into being an Adventist educator, Karie started sensing a growing desire to see mental health resources become more accessible to students in Adventist schools. While remaining engaged in the classroom, she started working on her MSW with a desire to be an active part of this change. Karie has been passionate about mental health for years and has seen how growing her knowledge in this field has made her better prepared to meet student needs.

Karie spends her free time with close friends and family. She enjoys writing and photography, collecting and nurturing plants, and traveling with her awesome dog Stanley.
