Counselor’s Corner - Issue 40
Dear Busybodies,
It happened in an instant, before I could recognize it. It snuck back quietly, bringing with it loud noise. It returned with full force, leaving me powerless and weak.
Sure, I promised to be more intentional in the New Year -- to bring mindfulness strategies, not just to schools, but to self. Yet, post It-Came-Upon-a-Midnight-Clear peacefulness turned to the hectic busyness of to-dos.
To-Do: Get back into a regular routine and schedule.
To-Do: Complete errands and returns I procrastinated on during Winter Break.
To-Do: Order 2022 planner and fill in every day and month with task items.
My Silent Nights of Christmas break transformed into restless sleep and 6-hour naps...until today when my therapist (A.K.A. Wellness Wonder Woman) posed the simple question: "Are you able to have a quiet mind?"
And I, (clearly not-so-wonderful-barely-keeping-it-together-woman) pose the same question to you: Are you able to have a quiet mind?
So often the pressure of fresh start and adrenaline of new beginnings leads us straight into overcommit and underserved. Busy resolutions leave weary souls demanding restitution. So I'm quitting my old New Year's resolution from January 1 and starting my new, New Year's resolution (formed January 7th): Make space and time in my 2022 life to have a quiet mind.
Wishing you a resolution with restoration,
Mindy
